Pork loin and pork tenderloin are easily confused. The biggest differences are the size of each cut and how to cook them. Pork loin is wide and thick with visible fat. To cook pork loin, it’s best to sear it briefly on the stove until it is browned and the finish cooking it in the oven. Pork tenderloin is narrow and thin with little visible fat. Pork tenderloin can be grilled or seared over high heat quickly. Pork chops tend to be leaner than other pork cuts and are quick and easy to cook.

Raw ground pork can last in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 days. Other cuts of raw pork can last 3 to 5 days in the refrigerator if they are packaged and properly sealed.


Other than checking the use by date, you can tell pork has gone bad if it smells rancid, looks discolored, has mold growth or a slimy texture.


Yes, if you would like to store raw pork for an extended period of time you can freeze it. Make sure that it is in an airtight container to prevent freezer burn. When properly stored, raw frozen pork can last 6 to 12 months.
